Digital Privacy Expert, Flexible EMEA location

We write great research and excite our clients every day - on the phone, on stage or face-to-face. The EU GDPR creates a tremendous demand for research and advice – and we are looking for individuals who will help us help our clients. A Research Director for Privacy in the Digital Workplace will advise clients on how to deploy information technology in a way that is in line with privacy laws worldwide and meets privacy expectations of customers and employees while achieving business objectives and supporting information security operations. This will focus on leading edge research in the following areas: Privacy in digital business and privacy in the Internet of Things (especially in the digital workplace) Privacy in operational technology (e.g. smart meters) Privacy in digital marketing (for example in the context of the EU GDPR) The role also requires a good understanding of the following elements of a privacy program. Privacy impact assessments, privacy audits, privacy policies The role also requires a foundational understanding of technologies that either support or threaten privacy, such as the following: Security technologies, especially data masking, tokenization and encryption, identity management and access control, security monitoring Technologies that enable data residency/sovereignty, for example cloud access security brokers and data protection gateways Human resources management, customer relationship management, mobile devices and cloud computing Experience in specific sectors (e.g. health care, finance, transport, education), business processes (e.g. marketing, human resources) or regulations (e.g. EU GDPR, DPA, BDSG, HIPAA, FERPA) is a clear advantage. In your new role, you will: Create specified written research in fulfilment of Gartner's commitment to clients (approx. 8 documents per year, a couple of pages each, targeting IT leaders). Perform research by reading, networking with clients, industry contacts, vendors and analysts, and by evaluating and analyzing information. Respond to 300-400 client inquiries per year, providing individualized advice to IT user clients (CIOs, CISOs, privacy officers) or vendor clients (product development and marketing). Present at 4-5 Gartner conferences per year as an industry expert. Provide sales support by speaking to prospective and existing clients by telephone and through face-to-face sales calls. Take press calls relevant to research expertise areas to promote the Gartner brand. Research how information, privacy and security technologies and practices are developing and to help clients with their vendor selection process - and assist vendors in overall market positioning Job Requirements: Strong communications skills (verbal and written), including the ability to explain complex concepts both concisely and simply. 6-10 years’ work experience, solving user problems in IT privacy and security. Experience in privacy in multiple countries, predominantly in Europe. Familiarity with the EU’s GDPR and its predecessors. Basic understanding of market research, data collection and analysis. Being able to work from home yet be working in a (virtual) team. Working knowledge of German or French are an advantage. Bachelor's degree in related field. #LI-AR1
