HCM Technology Managing VP, Gartner Research

The Team Manager of the Human Capital Management (HCM) Analyst team is responsible for leading and developing a global team of high-performing analysts whose research and advice guide end user global organizations in their HCM technology selection and how that supports HCM transformation strategies. The successful candidate will be instrumental in driving the team’s influence and impact with HCM IT leaders. The team will help grow Gartner’s HCM IT leader business and support new products in conjunction with Gartner CEB. This role requires: • A professional manager and leader with outstanding motivational and change management capabilities. • Ability to direct a global and dispersed team of analysts. The role includes leading, motivating, managing, developing and coaching individuals; the current direct team numbers 6 analysts. In addition, foster co-working and collaboration with a wider set of analysts in the HCM area, including those in the Gartner CEB business. • Proven execution skills. The manager will need to be able to prioritize multiple competing time demands, load balance and prevent bottlenecks, and drive complex projects and tasks whilst keeping a focus on what is “best for the business”. • Manage performance, drive a high performance culture and oversee and manage remuneration across multiple geographies. Increase the performance of low performers else exit them from the team. • Ability to continuously review and assess coverage in collaboration with Agenda Managers to allocate resources as determined by client key initiatives and strategic investment. • Drive the strategic evolution of research coverage within assigned area and promote strategic product ideas and represent global Research in group product strategy meetings. Process • Inspire and drive forward collaborative strategic thinking. Ensure team delivers highly relevant, quality, thought leading, actionable research output targeted at constituency roles. Be able to support significant change management as Gartner continues to grow. • Improve the quality and timeliness of all research outputs including written deliverables, PoCs, CEDs and conference presentations. Drive compliance with Expert Essentials or other methodologies designed to enhance customer retention and value. • Coach team to delight clients in all types of client interactions including developing presentation skills and maximizing PoCs and inquiry value and impact. Analyze all prospect and client interactions to ensure the delivery of the maximum value analysis and actionable advice by analysts. • Provide high quality and timely TM review of research documents and presentations to ensure quality and the provision of actionable advice. • Optimize resource management to maximize NCVI and Gartner’s financial performance. Direct and oversee analysts' workload to meet Research's growth objectives. • Contribute to Research’ strategic objectives by optimizing resource to support Agenda Managers in addressing key initiatives for target roles within structured agendas. • Support the GTM in all areas of the business. Demonstrate innovation and initiative. Fulfill assigned ad hoc management projects on time and deliver high quality. Demonstrate outstanding first team collaboration and the support of peers, and ensure the team does too. • Manage performance, drive a high performance, collaborative culture and oversee and manage remuneration across multiple geographies. • Hire, develop and retain top talent. Be sensitive to cultural differences and excel in managing a globally dispersed, remote team. • Manage expenses prudently to ensure budget and guideline compliance. Job Requirements: • Credibility to represent Gartner research, research methodology and strategies effectively at a senior (CXO) level, particularly to the head of HCM IT, and to be credible to senior HCM business domain stakeholders. • Strong background in HCM IT, particularly in the support of “people” organizational transformation initiatives. Proven experience in keeping abreast of the significant changes in the industry and its underlying technologies. • Demonstrated ability for driving high performance teams, supporting change management and building a culture for success in the team. • 15+ years’ experience working within the technology field, or relevant end user management experience. Ideally have a mix of HCM IT end user and vendor experience. • Recognized expertise and solid knowledge in the research process to lead relevant research coverage & grow business in topic area. • Polished skills in communication, leadership, planning, change management, motivation and coaching. • Demonstrates high level of influence, negotiation & facilitation skills, including collaboration and consensus building skills with a large diverse group of clients. • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. • Experience running and leading multi-national teams with high intercultural awareness. • Bachelor's degree in related field; Masters preferred - and/or relevant qualifications and/or relevant experience.
